Dr. Irena Shwayder, Ph.D. MFTC

Irena is a proud immigrant, creative, therapist, daughter, wife, and above all - she is a proud mother of two exuberant little girls. She was born in the former Soviet Union and raised in Silicon Valley among transplants from around the world. Through grit, resourcefulness, and a bit of luck, Irena’s parents gave her choices they didn’t have.

She chose a doctorate in psychology, a career supporting early childhood development, and a quiet life in suburban Colorado. After a dozen years in academia and nonprofits, Irena felt an ache to foster deeper conversations and community healing. She attended the Denver Family Institute and is now a Marriage and Family Therapy Candidate (MFTC). Dr. Shwayder uses her expertise in human development and psychophysiology, along with lived experiences as a cultural chameleon, to support Colorado’s youth and families.

Outside the office, Irena can be found creating a more whimsical world in her craft room. She uses a variety of artistic mediums as a means of self-expression and building community. Learn more about these creative ventures on the blog, or ask about the whimsical elements in the office!

The office itself is a cozy space where each of your senses are thoughtfully attended to. Enjoy a cup of tea, a selection of fidgets, and the playful aesthetic.
